How to Replace the Wheel on a Cub Cadet Walk-Behind Mower

These instructions will explain how to replace a wheel on one of Cub Cadet's walk-behind lawn mowers. Over time the wheel can become damaged or worn out, reducing traction and possibly the alignment of the mower. Depending on your model, the instructions for lawn mower wheel repair listed below may vary slightly. Always be sure to check your operator's manual for detailed instructions.

Instructions

Step 1 - Prepare the mower for maintenance

Make sure the engine is cool. Disconnect the spark plug ignition wire. Put the height adjuster at the highest level.

Step 2 - Remove the lawn mower wheel

Using a socket wrench, unbolt the wheel and remove it from the lawn mower.

Step 3 - Apply lubrication

Lubricate the new wheel's bushings with a dry lubricant, such as graphite.

Step 4 - Replace the lawn mower wheel

Tighten the wheel nut and adjust the height of the wheel to match the other three.

Step 5 - Ready the mower for operation

Reconnect the spark plug ignition wire. While running the mower for the first time on the new wheel, keep an eye out for vibrations or wobbling, which could indicate the lawn mower wheel assembly was not properly replaced.
