Transmission quality
Ever since the time of purchase of my 2008, it would grind into gear. After about 200 hours of operation the tranny wouldn't shift anymore. I removed the tranny, split the case, found the C-clips in the shift rods broke, not allowing the shift forks to move. I replaced them with heavier duty clips. It still grinds when shifting. At least Cub Cadet made it easy to pull the tranny out. Other than that its a well built machine. All thou I wish it had a little more speed. I was hoping it would be as maintenance free as my Cub 1524 riding lawn mower (12 years worry free).

transmission drive line
I purchased this unit in 2012, had defects with the transmission and drive line sent to recommended dealers to resolve repair issues. Vehicle still can not be used drive line problems. 64 hours on vehicle and still grinds going into gear. When will Cub Cadet resolve the problem?

Totally impressed on the trails.
Took the Volunteer out on a 25 mile trail Dice Run and kept up with the conventional quads except on the steep hill climbs. Satisfied except a little more ground clearance would of been better. Used it for plowing my driveway and this machine will push snow with no problem. Only complaint so far is that the oil filter is impossible to access to change. Seats are perfect for off-roading.

Poor starting 2011 model
My Volunteer doesn't start, it was brand new when I bought it , but it was a left over 3 years old sitting on a lot. The battery doesn't hold a charge , Ok. So I purchased a trickle charger for it. Sometimes it starts sometimes it doesn't. Now it doesn't start at all. getting it towed for repairs. It stopped at the bottom of my drive way and had to have someone get it to my house. Bummed out!! less then a year. I can only imagine what it will be like in a few years.

Fits my usage needs
Front rack great. Easy in/out access. Do not like high pitch noise at greater than half speed. Assume it is CVT. Plenty of power.

fun to ride, good speed, good pulling power
Mine is a 2012 EFI model and I use it around my property to hall brush and limbs. I have also used it to pull my Farmall H tractor and to pull a flat bed wagon pilled with folding chairs.
It has good speed and safety features. Accessories are expensive. It should come with rear tail lights. It needs power steering. The centrifugal clutch is not easy to get used to.
It doesn't come with a manual worth anything. It doesn't show how to change oil or where anything is located.

awesome for 7 years now
I purchased my 2008 Volunteer in Jan 2010 new to use on 99 acres of rugged mountain country in east Tennessee. Steep rocky slopes, and dusty roads down by the creek.
This UTV is build solid and heavy, and has not let me down. My family nicknamed him Admiral Nelson. He is unstoppable. I have challenged a Polaris ranger on the slopes after he doubted my tale, and left them at the bottom. We use Nelson to haul materials up the mountain for cabins, road clearing and just to get up and down.
I wrecked the front right tie rod twice, once on a stump at full speed (thank you seat belts) and once in a deep hole. fixed at home.
My second UTV will probably be a track loader/dozer, but the 3rd would be another Cub Volunteer.
I am adding the roof and hood rack.
I also use Kolpin dirt works Cat zero 3 pt hitch and tools. while Kolpin is barely functional it is NOT a tractor.
