Worst snowblower ever! Never buy one!!
I bought this unit in 2019. I wish I got a 2 stage blower instead. Breaks shear pins constantly on a gravel driveway. Plugs up with wet snow the shreds the belt. They should stop selling this design! Wish cub cadet allowed to trade for 2 stage snowblower. Run from this machine!! I'm so frustrated with this unit I've now bought a Honda snowblower. That hit the bank account hard but I'm no longer frustrated with this unit. After buying this brand new i just couldn't buy another cub cadet snowblower even if 2 stage. Lost a customer in future purchases. Good thing about it is the 420cc motor fires up easily but what good is that if you are always fixing it.

Doesn’t work as advertised.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Like many other postings I find that I am constantly breaking shear pins when going through heavy snow. Also, for as big as this machine is it can’t handle wet snow at all. The chute gets easily clogged and the snow just piles up in the 3x auger. I have only used this a few times over the past two years and had the drive belt already snap during use. Apparently ice can get into the pulley area causing the belt to be damaged. I honestly get more effort out of my 179cc craftsman two-stage then I do with this unit. Which is disappointing based on the cost of this machine.

Complete Waste of Money
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just purchased this snowblower and it is a 100% complete waste of money. For $1700 it shouldn't clog every 5 feet and have enough power to throw snow more than 2 feet. It never was able to even meet more less exceed any of the specs or pictures listed on the website. I'm hoping I can return it was just purchased. I'm still shocked it preformed so bad. It could literally only handle about 3 inches of snow. This machine will do nothing like the pictures show

Very good but not outstanding
I got this snowblower in November and have used it in different snow conditions. Delivery and set-up was easy. It does blow snow good distances, although in the wettest, heaviest snow I have seen in Minnesota in many years, it kept clogging as most other snowblowers did. I agree with other reviews I have read that the slowest speed is way too fast. With ice under the snow, the wheels would spin. In those conditions, chains would probably help but I don't see them offered as options. My biggest complaint is that it leaves snow windrows that are much worse than my old 2 stage blower. I don't know if it is caused by the speed or the fact that it is a three stage. It is still a good product, but it's highest rating by Consumer Reports must be due to the quality of the competition. From my standpoint, the jury is still out as to three stage vs 2 stage.

Does not work in slush or heavy snow
This snow blower craps the bed every time it sees slush.Unless it is light fluffy snow this 14 hp snow blower is useless.It sucks that every time I have heavy wet snow, which in New York is more the rule than the exception I have to get my neighbor to run through my driveway with his plow. My neighbor next door with a competitors snowblower eats it up and spits it out no problem.

Pretty good
The machine throws snow a mile. However, the snow chute elevation cables freeze after each use. If it gets warm enough you can thaw them out or just put a heater indet the controls for a while. I've had them replaced with no help. Other than that I can't find anything else bad about the snowblower. Starts great and the 3rd stage just eats through plow piles. It makes me sad that winter will be over in a month and I'll have to put it away for the summer.

Flawed Auger Design
I live in the Colorado foothills where we have had 4 to 8" snowfalls about once a week lately. I purchased the 3X 30" HD model a little over a month ago and have now used it on 5 snowfalls. This Cub Cadet 3-stage does not clear snow when there is any slush layer at the bottom of the snow. The snow just piles up in front of the snowblower as the auger clogs up. I will say that the engine provides plenty of power and I have not broken any shear pins as some other reviewers have mentioned. Most of our snowfalls here result in some slush as the snow initially falls on warm asphalt. I find the snow clearing ability of the auger to be very poor for a typical snowfall here. I bought this snowblower to replace an Ariens 2-stage machine that performed well for 11 years until the engine died. I deeply regret buying this Cub Cadet snowblower. It does not perform nearly as well as my old 2-stage machine.

12 inch 3 stage plugs up frequently
The 12 auger and 3 stage plugs up in wet snow and mostly pushes it around. Not as good as 13 inch auger 2 stage. I would not but it again. And the chute also plugs up, to narrow.
The reverse seems very slow.
Has good features like lock auger handle.
Definitely has lots of power to move snow.

Constant breakdown
I bought this for this winter of 2018 2019. And the first time I used it all the shear pins on augers sheared. Plus the belt broke.
Does not want to work in wet snow as you claim. Not happy with this product.

Issues, It is always clogging up behind the 3rd st
I bought this machine 2 winters ago used twice. Both times the third stage auger cloggs up and so does the chute. More frustating to use than shoveling by hand. All my neighbors have no problem and my machine is completley useless.

Very Disappointed
Used this machine for the very first time with a light 3" of snow on the ground. The R1 reverse gear did not work at all. The R2 reverse gear worked, but just barely. In addition the machine performed poorly with the slushy snow at the end of the drive and became clogged. Not happy with this purchase.

What a Beast!!!
I don't write reviews but, this machine is a beast. I have never used such a great machine, I don't even know how someone could give this a bad review. I bought this in late 2021 and have had 3 snow storms and it cuts through the snow with ease. It throws the 3.5 feet of snow at the end of my driveway with ease doesn't even get clogged or bog down. The only thing I will say is I spent a lot of money on this machine and it did not come with the drift cutter kit, that's the only disappoint. Take care of your machine and it will no disappoint you. I use ethanol free gas and it runs like a champ.

Waste to Money
This is our second winter using this snowblower. We are constantly having to replace the shear pins. They break in even the lightest snow fall. The chute clogs up all the time. The reverse doesn’t work well and it’s extremely difficult to try to maneuver. How this was rated highly on consumer reports is beyond me! What a waste of money!

Great features held back by shear pins
Great startup, design, features, but there are a few issues. I sheared 2 shear pins the first time I used it in a light 6" snow. The speeds are also too fast. Why have 6 speeds and can only really use 1 and 2? And reverse has 2 speeds and both are too slow!? The middle gearbox on the augers is leaking from one of the auger shafts. I hoped and expected more.

Great blower
I am not sure why the negative reviewers, lucky for me I put more stock in Consumer Reports than these. I am extremely happy with my purchase I have now blown 4’ of snow in two storms all wet and heavy and am happy to report it does an excellent job. No broken pins no burnt belts it is well made and sturdy.
The only conclusion I can come to is that there are folks that are poor operators when it comes to machines. The Operator may be more of a problem than the machine, a little common sense and this bad boy will do all you need to do it chews through the pile at the end of the driveway and throws the snow plenty far away.
If you are looking for a great machine at a mid price range this is a good one, but just because it has 6 gears doesn’t mean you should be trying to blow snow in 6th gear.
All in all I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Expensive disappointment
A perennial failure that lasted 4 years and finally gave out. It required constant maintenance in order to engage the auger and keep the clutch from burning and incredibly frustrating was the fact that the discharge chute was constantly clogged. I had to keep a 12" screwdriver with me at all times and stop and start the machine incessantly. With a fresh oil change and the first snow of the season, the engine seized. What a piece of crap.

Have been replacing shear pins like crazy, i snow blow six driveways with this unit and on last snow fall i counted eleven shear pins replaced, i spend more time replacing pins than blowing snow. Last three seasons i've replaced auger shaft,auger cable, forward motion cable and now the weld on the whole drum chute are breaking leaving me having to replace it Augh!

Fix my chute being plug all the time
If I would of written this review 2 weeks ago it would of gotten only one star
I have to replace one shear pin in 2 years of usage, but my problem was clugging.
Until I made a slight adjustment to my Auger cable.
We’ve had -3 snow 4’’ and -13 snow 7’’ NO CLUGGING
I even ran in my backyard where I hadn’t blow any snow so far and it went right through 16’’ full left to right without clugging.
If I continue to be lucky with the shear pins, this will be the snowblower I purchase

Absolutely Hate This Thing
Bought it last year and used it twice both time breaking shear pins! Yes I used the silver 738-06654 as replacements. First time this year and here we go again more broken pins. No matter the speed the chute also keeps plugging if the snow is even just a bit wet. The reverse is so slow it takes all day just to back up 10 feet! My 20 year old 2 stage 30" MTD blows the wheels off this garbage and it still has the original shear pins, it's never broke one! I was wrongly hoping this would be an upgrade, boy was I wrong! I wish there was some way to return it and start over!

Great performance
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This machine is not for your wife or girl friend to use...it's a serious machine for nearly any amount of snow. Sure it works fine in 3 inches of snow, you just have to walk a little faster. No problems with the shoot, cabels or shear pins - stay out of the gravel pit. It never ran me over backing up, I learned early to turn around and move forward, just select one of the 6 forward speeds, it's easier to maneuver

Exactly what I wanted
Was looking at a smaller model but when I showed a photo of last years drifts the salesman explained some of the potential struggles I would have. Went with this model and WOW! This takes out the drifts with ease.

Rear auger sheer pin
Huge storm In Denver today and I have the most expensive snow blower on the block and I’m stuck shoveling. The rear auger sheet pin broke and NO WAY to replace.. no videos to view to fix. This stinks!!!!

A Lemon!
This design (the 3X system) is seriously flawed. The central impeller design simply does not work well. The shear pins constantly break even when you don't hit a obstruction (and yes, I am using the correct shear pins - the ones stamped with an "A" on top). The impeller constantly fills with snow even though I run with the appropriate amount of ground speed. Very frustrating! Reverse is so slow even though my cables are tensioned properly. I'd return it if I could. Overall construction of the product is only mediocre at best as well. Stay away from this product!

Poorly built
1st one they shipped had a bent frame. 2nd one had a belt go 5 mins into clearing 3 inches of snow. 2nd belt went mins after as well. A lot of plastic on this thing.

Disappointed, Dud not a pwerhouse
Before the snow fell I thought I would upgrade. Very disappointed. Seems like at full throttle it is only running low rpm’s. It does not throw snow as advertised. Constantly stopping to clean out the chute.

Not the performance I was expecting from a Cub
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Another winter begins and our first heavy snow. I was really going this year the machine would perform better since we didn't get much snow last year to really see what it could do. But one thing is consistent - this machine does not like heavier/wet snow. Bogs down, clogs up, and just doesn't eat through the snow as I expected. We also have a small 20" Torro and that thing will throw wet snow better than this 3X Cub. Very disappointed in the 3X performance. Perhaps too many moving pieces with three stages? IDK. It does OK in light fluffy snow so I gave it an extra star. Otherwise I would have rated this at one star. Cub Cadet needs to send this one back to the drawing board. Gimme one that handles all types of snow. The hand warmers are nice and the lights work well....but I bought it to THROW SNOW!

Poor internal quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’d expect a machine that is priced as such to, out of the box, last one season, but sure enough this didn’t. We live in Maine and had one of the most mild winters in recent memory, but the cable that activates the augers broke after just the THIRD use. And yes, shear pins broke too, but was anticipating that. This unit was top on consumer reports, but I’m dreading an actual winter where we depend on it. Ended up needing to get a plow guy for the one storm with heavy snow. What a bummer.

Shear pins replacement cost now more then unit
Have had this unit now for a few years. I thought maybe I was just having really bad luck with shears pins. No, I am one of many, many people with the same issue. Obviously after a few years of this known issue Cub Cadet is unwilling to fix the issue (and yes, have been using the “updated” recommended shear pins). Time to sell and buy a brand that is willing to help out the people that keep their business thriving rather than making excuses or pointing finger at the consumer. Just admit you have a problem with this design!
